Historical
notes:
In 1596 the land was given by Henry de Bourbon to his equerry
Lancelot du Puits upon which the eldsting building was first
built. From 1652 to 1657 'Le Puits' was used as a hunting
lodge by the 'Grande Mademoiselle', Duchess of Montpensier,
first cousin of the great Sun King Louis XIV. The
Chabannes family, cousins of the Duchess lived there for
centuries.
Distinct architectural styles seen in front (from 1604 and
back (1594). The great architect François Le
Vau designed the turrets. |
